Head Coaches of both teams on the game:

Julius Schupler, Head Coach of Dinamo Riga:

- I am very happy for the team: the guys did everything I told them to: the played well defensively, caught our opponent on counter attacks played hard every moment and played the best they could… ska is a team of the highest level and the game was a very interesting one. It is a shame that we could not score on powerplay late in the game. We’ve been punished for it by Aleksey Yashin. Anyway, this single point is very important for us. I am thankful to the guys for playing hard to the end.

Barry Smith, Head Coach of SKA:

- I knew the game would be a difficult one. It happened so that in the first period already our guests had 6 minutes of powerplay which helped them scoring two goals. In fact we “woke up” only in the third period: the guys started to play according to the game plan. Unfortunately we did not score our third goal in regulation time but I am happy we were not scored against playing 3 on four right before the siren – that was a very difficult moment. I promise you to set out for Minsk with the game and mindset we showed in the third period.

Penalty: 22 — 18

Head Coaches on the game:

Nikolay Borschevsky, Head Coach of Atlant:

- We knew our opponent was strong and we approached the game very seriously. I think we had very good two first periods but we could not realize all our chances. In the third period we were scored against on the very first shift on penalty kill and our game started to fall apart. But the guys played to the end, they didn’t give in and found the way to score in the end. That was a positive thing. However, we are constantly let down by penalties. We are fighting those and ever will. But still we have too many.

- Barry Smith, Head Coach of SKA:

- In the beginning Nikolay’s team played outstandingly. They showed great speed and puck possession. We suffered the impact of our many penalties and lost the rhythm. In the second period the saves made by Maxim Sokolov and his confidence made the difference for us and we came back in the second period. It was great that Misko-Kucheryavenko-Trubachev block played so well together and scored such an important goal. In the third period we started to skate, make plays and the result was great. The guys were very upset about the last goal – they really wanted it to be a shutout. But our opponent’s team really deserved that goal. Speaking of ourselves, our special teams did a great job. We had three days of rest between games: at one hand it made it difficult for us get in the game in the first period but at the other hand the break helped us winning in the third period. We have two days of rest ahead of us and then we’ll play our game again.

Comments on the game by Head Coaches of both teams:

Dmitry Kvartalnov, Head Coach of Severstal:

- Congratulations to Barry and his team on the victory. I think the game was interesting. We had the first two goals scored against us on penalty kill and then there was a quick third goal in the third period – the game was made. SKA started to play a lot harder in the third period and SKA could have scored even more goals. However, our goalie helped us a lot. I would like to say that Maxim Sokolov had a great game tonight and made two or three great saves. SKA is a good team and they have earned their victory tonight.

Barry Smith, Head Coach of SKA:

- Dmitry’s team played very well tonight. A few days ago they beat Atlant and I was a little bit nervous about playing them tonight. We scored in the first period and in the second and the third period we made it again. We had many chances but Severstal goalie played very well. The support we get from our fans gives us a lot of strength and emotion and we are really grateful to them. It is a pleasure to play in Ledovy Ice Palace.

Head Coaches of both teams on the game:

Milos Rziga, Head Coach of Spartak:

It was a very god game – we always have games like that with Saint-Petersburg. In the beginning we did well defensively and offensively but then we took several penalties and had goals scored against us. The important thing is that our team did not give in and showed character tying the score and then winning in the end. I really liked the way we played on powerplay even thought we did not score. I especially liked the way we played compared to our last game when we did not have the right attitude. Tonight we played hard.

Barry Smith, Head Coach of SKA:

- Spartak played very well tonight. We played well in the first period and in the beginning of the second period and then in the second period we took many penalties and had to play 3 on 5 and 4 on 5. We lost a lot of energy and lost our momentum. Our problem is that we’ve been playing every other night so it can be hard to have much energy in the third period. And we had to kill penalties again. Some players played all the time and got tired while others played little and lost their legs. The public tonight was great, it was a great environment to play in. We got great support from our fans and as Milos Rziga said it was the atmosphere of a playoff game that nobody wanted to lose. Now we have to reload, play Severstal and have rest.
